Surprise!

They get me every year

I am always surprised by the oranges 

They produce some of the most fragrant flowers on earth IMHO

most of the flowers drop without setting fruit

the warm evenings of the fall are awash in sweet citrus perfume

The surprise comes sometime after Christmas

when I find 

to my utter amazement

that our diminutive backyard tree 

is covered (in a good year)

with delicious orange fruits

summer comes in the dead of winter
