I don't need a calendar

 

I have the birds

right now they are hopping 

around in pairs

you know what that means

doubles tennis

obviously

The avian locals

sporting new feathers

chests bursting red

the green ones

are the bright green

of new foliage and tree moss

Even the sparrows

absolute masters of blending

into the leaf litter

are somehow

brighter

in their camouflage  

So the winter progresses

a mild one

in this drainage

some decent swell

not a lot of local snow

The seeds germinate

but haven't broken

the topsoil

Not spring yet

but it's getting there

Last summer

is just a

blur now
