The Real MacCoys

After discussing my shoe, foot, ankle situation at length this morning in the comments section of the shoes post I tried something different for today's run.

I went back to the New Balance MT110 minimalist shoes (4mm heal to toe drop).

I ran the normal distance but I did take the "trails" turn off.  There is a little more climbing and descending then the other route and it's also set back farther from the road so the scenery is nicer. More dirt less tarmac.

The minimalist shoes have no where to heal strike so you have to land on the midfoot and roll forward.

I also concentrated on taking smaller steps and running slow.

You can really feel that these shoes change your running.

The rest of the day was the usual, yoga in the morning and a mile or two walk at lunch.

I'm writing this part of the post after the run.

The real test will be tomorrow morning.

If I'm not walking like Gramps in the Real MacCoys it's all good!

Check out Gramps coming in thru the front door at 27 seconds into the clip.

This is what I looked like yesterday.

So now it's tomorrow.

And while I do have a resemblance to the Gramps walk going on I would have to say the mods were a success!

I would like to thank Pickian, Robin and RAS  for their comments and suggestions.

Now on a more surf related note to end the week

... BUILDING SURF THIS WEEKEND PEAKING ON SUNDAY...

TWO LARGE OCEAN SWELLS WILL IMPACT THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA BEACHES THIS WEEKEND BRINGING ABOVE AVERAGE SURF... DIFFICULT SWIMMING CONDITIONS AND A HIGH RISK OF STRONG RIP CURRENTS. THE HIGHEST SURF WILL ARRIVE SUNDAY.

THE FIRST SWELL WILL BE AN 18 SECOND LONG PERIOD SOUTHERLY SWELL THAT WILL BUILD IN LATE THIS AFTERNOON. SURF WILL INCREASE TO 4 FEET LATE IN THE DAY AND CONTINUE TO BUILD TONIGHT AND SATURDAY WHEN SURF WILL RANGE FROM 5 TO 8 FEET AT ORANGE COUNTY BEACHES WITH SETS TO 12 FEET AT TIMES. A FEW BEACHES IN NORTHERN SAN DIEGO COUNTY COULD SEE SURF OF 4 TO 8 FEET.

THE SECOND SWELL... ORIGINATING FROM THE CENTRAL PACIFIC... WILL ARRIVE EARLY SUNDAY MORNING. THIS WEST-NORTHWEST SWELL WILL BE QUITE LARGE... 12 TO 14 FEET IN THE OUTER COASTAL WATERS AND UP TO 10 FEET IN THE INNER COASTAL WATERS. THIS SWELL WILL COMBINE WITH THE FIRST SWELL TO BRING SURF OF 6 TO 10 FEET WITH SETS TO 12 FEET IN ORANGE AND SAN DIEGO COUNTIES SUNDAY INTO MONDAY MORNING. THE SWELL WILL GRADUALLY DIMINISH MONDAY AFTERNOON.

One more thing. I increased my intake of raw ginger, tumeric and borage oil. Just finished yoga and I feel pretty good! I may wait until tomorrow to run again though.
