Winter's icy chill

abates and

as is tradition

those of us with a northern European heritage

flock to the shores

to sacrifice our skin

our limited melon 

having given up the ghost

years ago

in our youth

chasing after 

a golden tan

approximating the color

of a bucket of KFC
