Post Apocalypse Haze

mars the sunrise

the canyons are aflame

A dark purple smudged sky 

Surrounded by lighter shades of red

The sky looks bruised

Combined was a smoky yellow haze

Cast across the landscape

Giving the effect that our earth

Was in a fight and is losing

the seasonal combination

of heat, fuel and oxygen

marks the calendar

fall has begun

last winters rains

drives the growth of

coastal sage

fragrant and oily

the staff of life

for thousands of birds

rodents

and critters

it bursts into flame
