Spring Break

Good Friday was the start of spring break this year

10 consecutive days to not be in school

too short a time to get a job

too long a time not to do

Something!

Back in the day

It was the time to skip the wetsuit completely

They were too thick and too stiff anyway

And even if the water was still a little cold

The afternoon sun would warm you up

The occasional swim

(no leashes back then)

would punctuate the surf session

with a brief rest on the sand

maybe by the fire

if it was early

If it was later in the afternoon

(we surfed all day)

you would sit in the local "pit"

with friends and discuss

the major issues of the day

"Where's the party tonight?"
