Levon Helm pasted away the other day
The drummer, mandolin player, guitarist, and vocalist for The Band was 71.
The Band served as backup to some of musics finest front men and women.
Usually you post a clip of Mr. Helm drumming, singing lead or playing mandolin on such classics as "The Weight", "Up on Cripple Creek", "Ophelia" or "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down".

Backing up Eric Clapton on "Further on up the road" Levon and the boys are so good that when Clapton's guitar strap comes off (50 seconds in) he gets a the rest of the measure to recover then Robbie Robertson jumps in for the next few bars before passing the lead back to Clapton. Clean. Seamless. If you weren't watch the video you would never know. The Band was tight!
This was the beauty of The Band and the reason that for thirty years they were sought after performers on stage and in the studio.
